Diaries, 1833, 1835.

Diaries kept by Catharine Clarkson on trips taken in 1833 and 1835. The first trip was through northern New York State and adjoining regions of Canada from June 17-July 24, 1833 with her longest stays being in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, York (now Toronto), Montreal, Quebec, and Caldwell (now the town of Lake George). Brief entries discuss the sights, other travelers as well as friends met, travel conditions, accomodations, and pastimes; Henry Stevens, De Witt Clinton, Jr. and a Dr. Coggeswell are mentioned several times (54 p.). The second trip was made to Virginia and West Virginia, June 24-Aug. 3, 1835 with entries similar in nature to those in the first diary (27 p.).
